Forgot Your Yolin Display Password? Here’s How to Recover Access
BlackJackA Secure Recovery Guide for Verified Owners
Forgetting a display password can be frustrating—especially when you rely on your e-bike for daily commuting.
If you’ve forgotten the password for your Yolin e-bike display, or purchased a bike where the previous owner didn’t pass it on, this guide explains how to recover display access safely and correctly.
Note: This article covers password recovery only. It does not remove speed limits or modify performance settings. For more detailed instructions and guidance on Yolin displays, download the user manual here.
When This Guide Applies
This guide is intended for legitimate owners in situations such as:
- You set a display password during setup and later forgot it
- You purchased a second-hand e-bike and don’t know the existing password
- The display prompts for a password before allowing access to settings
In all of these cases, the display is functioning normally. The password system exists to protect access—not to restrict use.
How to Recognize the Password Screen
In some cases, your Yolin display may show parameters such as:
P0, P5, or P19
(or displayed as 0P, 5P, or 19P depending on the model)
This can be confusing, as these codes are often mistaken for regular configuration settings.
However, in this situation, these codes indicate that the display is locked and waiting for a password input, not that you are accessing editable settings.
If you see these parameters:
- The display is functioning normally
- You are in the password entry interface
- A password is required before accessing any settings
This typically happens when:
- A password has been previously set
- The display is restarted or powered on
- Access to settings is restricted until verification
If you are unsure whether you are in the password screen or settings mode, do not attempt to modify parameters. Instead, follow the recovery process outlined below.
Why Yolin Does Not Publish Reset Codes Publicly
Yolin displays are commonly used on commuter and utility e-bikes that are stored in apartments, garages, or shared spaces.
Publishing universal reset codes online would make it easy for stolen bikes to be accessed in minutes. To prevent that:
- Password recovery codes are not listed publicly
- Recovery is provided only to verified owners
- This policy helps protect riders and the broader e-bike community
This approach prioritizes real-world security over convenience shortcuts.
Important Clarification
- This process does not remove speed limits
- It does not modify controller behavior
- It does not bypass manufacturer restrictions
It simply restores authorized access to the display after a forgotten or unknown password.
Step 1: Enter the Password Recovery Interface
- Make sure the bike is powered off and stationary
- Press and hold the Minus (“–”) button and the Power (“i”) button together
- Continue holding for 10 –15 seconds
- Watch the display carefully
If successful, “-PP” will appear on the screen.
Important: Once “-PP” appears, stop here. Do not enter random codes.
Step 2: Prepare Ownership Verification
To proceed with password recovery, ownership verification is required. Please prepare the following:
- Display Serial Number (engraved on the back of the display)
- Photo of the Password Screen showing “-PP” or the password prompt
- Proof of Purchase such as an order confirmation or receipt
If the bike was purchased second-hand, contact the original seller for documentation whenever possible.
Step 3: Contact Yolin Tech Support
Once verification is complete, our support team will provide:
- The manufacturer-approved recovery code
- Instructions for entering it correctly
- Guidance on setting a new personal password if needed
This ensures access is restored without weakening security for other riders.
Frequently Asked Questions
I forgot my password but still own the bike. Why is verification required?
Without verification, anyone with physical access to a bike could request recovery. Verification protects legitimate owners from misuse.
I no longer have the original receipt. What can I do?
Check your email history for order confirmations or contact the retailer or seller you purchased the bike from. Additional information may be requested if needed.
A Practical Note from Support
In our experience, most password recovery requests come from riders who simply haven’t needed the code for months—or even years—until a settings change was required.
That’s normal. Security systems are designed for the moment you do need them.
